DuoBoots is excited to be working with Smart Works, an extraordinary organisation helping women in need to get back into work.

Who do they help?

“Women may come to us from prisons, refugees, care homes, homeless shelters, mental health charities, job centres and many more. Half have been unsuccessful in over 20 applications. A third have been turned down from over 50 jobs. All are suffering from a lack of confidence in their own abilities.”

Kate Stephens, Chief Executive, Smart Works

After their visit to Smart Works, 59% of these women go on to get the job and change their lives.

How do they help?

Smart Works offers practical support to women who are struggling to secure employment by providing them with an outfit of high quality clothing alongside one hour of tailored coaching for their interview.

A visit to Smart Works includes:

  • A styling session with a volunteer stylist to advise, provide high quality interview clothes and appropriate beauty advice.
  • An interview preparation session with a volunteer senior manager, HR professional or executive coach to ensure confidence, interview technique and presentation are all as good as they can be.
  • A follow-up appointment to successful clients in which they receive a capsule wardrobe to wear to work.

Their clients leave them feeling confident and empowered, ready to present their best self at the interview.

“I feel empowered. I didn’t know it was going to be like this. It’s life changing.”

Smart Works Client

Towards the end of 2017, some of the DuoBoots team went to meet Smart Works at their offices in London. We didn’t really know what to expect, but we were all really impressed with the warmth and compassion of the staff we met, as well as the quality of the clothing and the professional, welcoming environment. These things in themselves have a tremendously positive effect on the women who are referred to the organisation.

“The difference that fabulous, well fitted, stylish clothing and tailored coaching support can have on a woman’s confidence is extraordinary and something we witness every day at Smart Works. We continue to be hugely grateful that you share this commitment and support us in turning it into a reality.”

We came away feeling inspired and very keen to support this very worthwhile organisation. We have donated a number of pairs of previous seasons’ boots already and have another batch scheduled for delivery in spring. We are also supporting them by taking part in their fundraising International Women’s Day cycling challenge, Spin for Smart Works.
